The button bush is a rare native species these days, but we are fortunate to have quite a few on our property especially in some of the wetter areas- this is one of the few natives that does not mind having wet feet. It actually likes to have water all or most of the time. The seed heads smell great and attract butterflies during the mid-summer when the little clustered heads begin to from.
In the fall I picked one "button" (the ball-like seed head) after it dried to see what I could propagate. In addition to being able to offer some seeds, I also managed to grow a few trees. We have one in the backyard and a couple of others for you to take home. At the moment, they are only about 0.5 m tall at the most, but these are fast growers and fall will be the perfect planting time for them!
