This showy perennial typically has one unbranched 2-3 ft. stems, with lavender-blue, tubular flowers crowded together on the upper stem. This plant is closely related to the cardinal flower and is a highly desirable plant for woodland gardens, blooming bright blue in late summer. Attracts hummingbirds and is a great source of food for native bees!

Height: 2-5 feet (75-500 cm) 

Blooming Period: July to October

Light: Shade or part shade; rain garden in sun would be ok too

Water: NOT drought tolerant, must be moist or wet at all times

Soil: Clay, Sand, loam

Native Ontario Habitat: Wet woods, stream banks, and marshes
